Blaze North of Darlington Caused $15K in Damage: Fire Marshal

Officials said home and two outbuildings were affected.

A house and two other structures were damaged Sunday as the result of a fire that started north of Darlington, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Fireplace ashes that had not been properly disposed of ignited mulch and brush in a garden outside a home in the 3700 block of Peach Orchard Road, according to the fire marshal.

Crews responded to a large field fire that had spread to a home and two out buildings at approximately 3:30 p.m., according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

A “large portion of the woods” was ablaze, and firefighters saw flames against the residencewhen they arrived, according to the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company.

Crews from Jarrettsville, Whiteford, Level, Darlington, Bel Air and Delta-Cardiff helped fight the fire, which was brought under control within 45 minutes, according to the fire marshal.

Around 5 p.m., firefighters cleared the scene, where damage was limited to the vinyl siding of the residence, the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company reported.

According to the fire marshal, nobody was displaced; there were no injuries; and damage to the two-story home and a pair of sheds was estimated to be $15,000.
