Drug Take-Back Day Is October 27 In Havre de Grace

Drop off unused or expired prescription drugs and over-the-counter meds this Saturday, Oct. 27. Find a collection site near you.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — You know all those old prescription bottles that you want to get out of the way? In Havre de Grace, you can dispose of unused medication on Saturday, Oct. 27, for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

"If you can't make it out on Saturday, it's okay," the Havre de Grace Police Department said. "We have a drop box right in the front of our police station where you can drop off your old prescriptions 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week!"

Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the drug take back event is held twice annually to help Americans safely dispose of expired and unused prescriptions. The majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet, according to the DEA. Other methods of disposal — throwing unused drugs out with the trash or flushing them down the toilet — can cause environmental damage, the Environmental Protection Agency reports.
