Havre de Grace Shines Blue for Slain Deputies

The city of Havre de Grace pays tribute to fallen heroes from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The mayor of Havre de Grace issued an order for the lights in downtown Havre de Grace to shine blue on Friday in remembrance of the two deputies who died in the line of duty one year ago.

On Feb. 10, 2016, Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey was fatally shot at 11:56 a.m. inside the Abingdon Panera and his colleague Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon, who pursued the shooter, was gunned down by the suspect at 12:07 p.m. outside the nearby Park View senior apartments.

Havre de Grace Mayor William T. Martin wanted to take action to pay tribute to the pair who died in the line of duty. Said Martin: "Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten."'

To memorialize the sacrifice of Dailey, 52, and Logsdon, 43, the mayor ordered the lights in the city to shine solid blue for one full night.

The Havre de Grace recognition of the slain deputies coincided with a countywide tribute on Friday.

Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler and members of the Harford County Sheriff's Office stood in solidarity for a remembrance ceremony along the Boulevard at Box Hill. The event coincided with the time when the deputies were shot exactly one year ago.

Harford County employees gathered in silence at noon outside the administrative office building at 220 South Main Street in Bel Air , while emergency sirens sounded for one minute countywide.
