Baltimore Woman Extradited From NC After Pikesville Hotel Homicide: Police

Police said a 29-year-old woman has been charged in the homicide at the Howard Johnson in Pikesville from November 2020.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A Baltimore woman was extradited out of North Carolina in relation to a Pikesville homicide that occurred last fall in the Howard Johnson hotel.

Ayanna Michelle Allen, 29, of the 2100 block of Penrose Avenue, has been indicted on seven charges, including first-degree murder.

Court records show Allen has been held without bail since Sept. 1.

She has been charged with the following:

  • First-degree murder
  • First-degree assault
  • Using a firearm in a felony crime
  • Handgun in vehicle
  • Handgun on person
  • Loaded handgun in vehicle
  • Loaded handgun on person

Police said the charges were in connection with the death of Lashawnda Sanders, 43, who was found deceased inside a hotel in the 400 block of Reisterstown Road on Nov. 29, 2020.

When officers were called to the hotel to check on a sick or injured person, they said they found Sanders — of the 1600 block of North Monroe Street in west Baltimore — in the second-floor hallway. Police said Sanders had trauma to the upper body and was pronounced deceased.

"Over the past nine months, detectives have worked with the community and continued to actively follow up on new leads as they were presented," the Baltimore County Police Department reported Monday. "This case marks the sixth homicide that occurred in a previous year Baltimore County homicide detectives have closed in 2021."
