Angel Park Almost Finished, with Lift from Community

The park near the Perry Hall Library is nearly finished but is not yet open to the public.

PERRY HALL, MD — More than 4,000 volunteers helped build a playground this month that will accommodate all children, including those with disabilities, in Perry Hall.

While most of the jungle gyms and slides are up, professional construction crews will be coming in to put on the finishing touches, organizers say. Rubber surfacing will go onto the playground, and the picnic pavilion and amphitheater will be installed in the days ahead.

"It is important to remember that this remains an active construction site, so please do not enter the site until it is open to the public..." according to the Angel Park Facebook page.

It took 10 days and 1,000 hours for volunteers to build the "storybook-themed" playground, which includes whimsical elements like castles as well as nontraditional elements such as braille panels, according to WBAL.

Angel Park is envisioned as an interactive venue that will include an amphitheater and playground that will accommodate all children, including those with special needs.

Andy and Kelli Szczybor, whose son Ryan died of leukemia when he was 15 months old, are driving forces behind Angel Park.

“We wanted to call it Angel Park because there are so many people that have lost somebody,” Kelli Szcybor told Patch previously. “Angel Park—that’s for everybody.”

The 16,000-square-foot park will be surrounded by pickets and pavers where donors can memorialize those they consider to be angels.
