Free Doughnuts In Rockville: Here's How To Get Them

ROCKVILLE, MD — Seems as though every day of the week is dubbed National (fill in the blank) Day these days. Well, toward that end, Friday is National Doughnut Day, and the Rockville Duck Donuts will be handing out free doughnuts, er, donuts, as it were, to celebrate.

The famous made-to-order donut shop is giving customers a free doughnut of their choice with any purchase on June 2. In addition, your receipt will also have a "Buy One Get One Free 1/2 Dozen" marking that's redeemable until Aug. 31. Duck Donuts, which has dozens of locations in the United States, began as a lone shop more than a decade ago in Duck, North Carolina, on the Outer Banks.

“National Donut Day is one of Duck Donuts’ favorite holidays to celebrate with our customers and throughout the community,” said Russ DiGilio, founder and owner of Duck Donuts Franchising Company LLC, in a statement. “This year, we’re excited to give our customers the opportunity to not only commemorate the day in-stores, but also on Facebook, through our ‘12 Days of Donuts’ contest, offering our fans the chance to win our famous donuts.”

Dessert-lovers can order their doughnut just the way they like it at Duck Donuts. Patrons first chose their coating, including bare, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, strawberry icing, chocolate icing, glazed and more. Then comes the toppings: sprinkles, chopped peanuts, bacon pieces, shredded coconut, Oreos and more. Finally, patrons can top their doughnut with a hot fudge, raspberry, blackberry or salted caramel drizzle. Beverages include coffee, tea, hot chocolate and more.

National Doughnut Day was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I, according to the release.
