Air Deemed Safe in Towson Courthouse After Gas Main Break: Police

TOWSON, MD — The Towson courthouse and some area roads have been cleared to reopen Thursday after a morning gas main break prompted a building evacuation and traffic detours.

The issue began when crews working along Chesapeake Avenue cut a gas main before 10 a.m., officials said.

Parts of Bosley and Chesapeake avenues were temporarily closed, and the courthouse was evacuated as a precaution.

By 12:35 p.m., fire personnel had deemed the air quality in the Baltimore County Circuit Court safe. In addition, southbound Bosley Avenue reopened, public safety officials said.

Bosley Avenue remained closed Thursday afternoon to northbound traffic between Towsontown Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue as BGE completes repairs on the gas line.

PREVIOUS REPORT (EXPIRED) — Road closures are in effect in downtown Towson Thursday morning due to a gas main break, officials said. The Baltimore County Circuit Court is also being evacuated, police reported.

Authorities said crews working along Chesapeake Avenue cut a gas main before 10 a.m.
Since then, these road closures have been reported by police:

• Bosley Avenue is closed to traffic between West Joppa Road and Susquehanna Avenue.
• Chesapeake Avenue is closed between Central Avenue and Washington Avenue.

Both BGE and Baltimore County Fire Department personnel are working at the scene.

The courthouse is being evacuated; however, police said that is expected to be the only evacuation required in the area.
