Teen Sentenced To 25 Years In Prison For 2024 Rodgers Forge Shooting

The sentencing of Kai Wilson was tied to the 2024 Rodgers Forge shooting that left a local youth sports coach seriously injured.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Kai Wilson, a 17-year-old charged as an adult for the 2024 Rodgers Forge shooting, was handed down on Monday a 40-year prison sentence that suspended all but 25 years.

The judge's ruling requires that the first five years of Wilson's sentence be carried out without the possibility of parole.

The sentencing comes years after Wilson and a now 18-year-old Kamar Thompson were first arrested in connection with the shooting of youth sports coach Mark McKenzie during an attempted robbery.

McKenzie was in attendance at the sentencing and told WBAL outside the courtroom that "it's not a good day across the board."

"It's important they understand that the consequences that come from it," McKenzie said outside court. "I don't think about the incident at this point in my life. Let's move on and deal with the everyday things that occur."

Court documents show both Wilson and Thompson pleaded guilty in April to the use of a firearm in a violent crime. Additionally, Wilson pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder, as Thompson did the same to an attempted armed robbery charge.

Records show Thompson was sentenced in May to 25 years on both charges. He has a court appearance scheduled for July 30.
