Towson’s Circle East Plans For 2020 Opening
In all, 21 new retailers are slated to be part of the $30 million development at York and Joppa roads in Towson.

TOWSON, MD — Tenants in Towson's new Circle East development will start opening their doors to the public by early 2020, according to a report. In all, 21 new retailers are slated to be part of the $30 million development at York and Joppa roads in Towson.
Retail Properties of America is developing the project. The plan for Circle East is to transform roads into a pedestrian-friendly area with a 371-unit apartment building and 240,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
To make way for the new development, Barnes & Noble closed in June 2017, on the heels of Trader Joe's in March 2017. Bahama Breeze and Pier I closed in 2016.

Circle East will mark the redevelopment of an iconic part of Towson, where the Hutzler's department store used to be from 1952 to 1990, according to the Maryland Historical Society.
At least one restaurant has signed a letter of intent to occupy a retail space in the corner of the old Hutzler's building, Nick Over, director of development for Retail Properties of America's Eastern Division, told the Baltimore Sun.

The apartments will be managed by AvalonBay Communities. The slated move in date for apartment occupants is also early 2020, Dan Regalia, a senior project manager with AvalonBay, told the Sun.
"Lively, distinct, and curated, Circle East is poised to become the focal point of aspirational retail in Towson," according to Retail Properties of America. The developer describes the project as "unlike anything in the area" and something that will "transform downtown Towson."
