Towson Tree Lighting Dazzles Downtown
Part of Allegheny Avenue was closed to traffic for Friday's festivities.

The Towson community kicked off the holiday season Friday evening with festivities at Olympian Park.
Musical guests, Santa and a tree lighting delivered cheer to downtown Towson from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20.
This was the first of several holiday-themed events that make up Winterfest, an initiative sponsored by the Towson Chamber to encourage community members to get into the spirit by shopping, dining and visiting downtown Towson. See the full list of Winterfest activities.

At the 2015 tree lighting ceremony, more than 250 musicians from the Towson University Marching Band set the tone with holiday classics. The Perry Hall Middle School Choir and the Anna Apicella School of Dance were also slated to perform, according to the Greater Towson Council of Community Associations (GTCCA).
Arriving by fire truck, Santa and Mrs. Claus helped light the Baltimore County Christmas tree at approximately 6:20 p.m.

There was free hot chocolate and pastries, according to the GTCCA.
The tree lighting festivities were from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, at Olympian Park, located on West Joppa Road at Allegheny Avenue.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Allegheny Avenue will be closed to drivers from 4 to 8:30 p.m. between Washington Avenue and the traffic circle. Free parking will be available from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Allegheny Plaza Parking Center, 111 Allegheny Avenue.
