Mahoney Family Tribute to benefit GLCAC & Merrimack Valley Non-Profits

A tribute to Dr. Hugh Mahoney, his wife Ruth and their son John will raise money to combat domestic violence in the Merrimack Valley.

A very special tribute to a Tewksbury doctor, his wife and their son will raise money, in part, for Greater Lawrence Community Action Council Inc. The Dr. Hugh, Ruth and John Mahoney Tribute Event will feature a keynote address from former Boston Policy Commissioner Ed Davis, and all proceeds from the event will benefit Merrimack Valley charities.

On New Year’s Eve 1975, Dr. Hugh Mahoney, his wife Ruth, and their fifteen-year-old son John were murdered in their Tewksbury home. Over his career as an obstetrician in Middlesex County, Dr. Mahoney delivered hundreds of babies, Ruth was a nurse at St. John’s Hospital, and John was a freshman at Austin Prep. Family and friends found themselves helpless, disempowered, and bewildered. In many ways, this tragic event changed the community.

Maureen Mahoney, a surviving daughter, is passionate about addressing domestic violence in the community, and she has put together a volunteer committee to coordinate the Mahoney Tribute Even. On October 21, 2015, the committee will be hosting the event at 6:30 p.m. at the Tewksbury Country Club.
