Are you an African or Latin hand drummer looking for something new? Seen a doumbek and always wanted to play one? Learned the basics of doumbek and now want to find out what's next? In this class we'll cover the basics of doumbek technique, making sure to to refine and challenge those who already know their way around a doum and tek. We'll cover some rhythms common across the Middle East and Central Asia, in both their bare forms, and with various types of rhythmic ornamentation to keep them fresh and exciting. We'll also cover the differences in rhythms, techniques, and styles across cultures. Time permitting, we will also cover the unique challenges of drumming for dancers.
Experience with hand drumming not required.
