Fresh Food, From Farms to Your Table

Where do you go for some great farm-to-table food in Arlington?

Spring is here in full force and that means our local growing season has begun. So, where do you go for some great farm-to-table food in Arlington? Actually, going where farmers bring the food to you is the real question.

The Arlington Farmer's Market will start up in a few short weeks in early June. If you haven't been in the past, it happens on Wednesdays, 2-6:30 p.m., in the Russell Common parking lot in Arlington Center. You will find locally raised meat, cheese, eggs, fish, honey, herbs and of course, vegetables and fruit. In addition local restaurants and bakeries will be there with prepared foods and baked goods.

If you can't make it to the farmer's market, another option is a CSA (farm share), Farmers to You, or a local delivery of Boston Organics' Dogma Box. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a system of farm shares that you either pick up in town or at the farm.  For a list of some local CSAs and details about where they deliver, you can visit the NOFA website. Farmers To You is a great delivery service that brings food from New England farms and drops off in Arlington, among other cities. Boston Organics is a local organic delivery service and the pièce de farm to table rèsistance is their Dogma Box which is as local as they can get.  For example, this week's box has black radishes from Quebec, butterball potatoes from Maine, spinach from Vermont and onions from New York, just to name a few.
