ICYMI: Arlington Officers Graduate from MBTA Police Academy

One of the officers set an MBTA Police Academy record for push-ups.

ARLINGTON, MA — Five Arlington police officers graduated from the MBTA Transit Police Academy Wednesday afternoon at Faneuil Hall in Boston.

Officers Joseph Canniff, Tenzing Dundutsang, Thomas Guanci, Daniel Styffe, and Salena Zona were recognized at the Great Hall in Faneuil Hall Wednesday for their graduation. The officers completed a rigorous 27-week program and learmed about criminal and constitutional law, domestic violence, use of force, motor vehicle law as well as many other pertinent topics.

Zona set the all time MBTA Police Academy record for push-ups by a female recruit, with 78 in a single minute. The prior record stood at 75 push-ups in a minute.

"Congratulations to our five new officers for finishing the MBTA Transit Academy," Chief Ryan said. "Their dedication, diligence and hard work throughout the academy will be invaluable as they begin their new roles as Arlington Police Officers."

The officers were later sworn in Thursday at Arlington Town Hall. The officers will now participate in the Arlington Police Department's 12-week training program that focuses on Arlington-related issues, community policing, restorative justice procedural justice, and fair and impartial policing.
