Safety Vehicle Day at Brackett Elementary
More than 120 children toured fire trucks, rescue vehicles, ambulances and more.
A bomb dismantling robot who goes by the name "Slick" visited close 150 Arlington school children at the Brackett School yesterday afternoon and he was not alone.
Slick - a 6-year-old Remotec F6A Andros Robot - was part of a multi-part safety vehicle demonstration put on as a joint effort betwen Town of Arlington's Recreation, Police and Health Departments.
The day is one part of the second annual Health, Recreation, and Cops program (HRC) going this week at the Brackett School. The program teaches children about safety - online, stranger danger and more - and also gives them a chance to understand more about Arlington by giving tours of the Fire and Police Departments.

Safety vehicle day is always a big hit, said Detective Bryan Gallagher of the Arlington Police Department. He said the children are often very well-informed, whether it is from movies they have seen or just from general observation. "They know more than we think."
The program is opened to Arlington residents in first through sixth grade and almost always fills up quickly, Gallagher said. "We do have a waiting list for this program," he said. "People start calling very early for it."
