Young Mother Third Fatality In Cotuit Crash

The 24-year-old woman thrown from a sedan in a head-on crash on Rt. 28 died Sunday, according to her family.

COTUIT, MA – The third person involved in a head-on crash in Cotuit over the weekend died Sunday, according to her family. Relatives of 24-year-old Jocelyn Goyette told the Boston Globe she died in the hospital, where she was being treated for critical injuries.

Goyette and 22-year-old Mickey Rivera were thrown from a Toyota sedan that collided with an SUV on Rt. 28 East Saturday morning. Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, Kevin Quinn, died at the hospital after being extricated using the Jaws of Life. The 32-year-old Marine was on his way home from the hospital, where his wife had given birth days earlier.

Scanner reports before the crash indicate a police officer had begun pursuing Rivera for multiple traffic violations. Questions have arisen about why Rivera, whose bail was reduced on charges related to a deadly 2015 shooting last fall, was not in jail after being charged with drunk driving in June.

Goyette's family described her as an "incredible mother" to her 3-year-old son, Javien.
