Beloved Ice Cream Shop Known For Unique Flavors To Open First MA Location

BOSTON, MA — A unique ice cream shop with funky flavors is set to open its first Massachusetts location.

Salt & Straw is opening its doors in Boston’s Seaport neighborhood this summer. The business is known for its fun flavors and current menu items, like pear and blue cheese, Concord grape nut crumble and cinnamon snickerdoodle.

The business put up signs at the updated Commonwealth Pier at 200 Seaport Blvd. The new location will be one of the ice cream chain's more than 50 locations nationwide, including one in Salem, New Hampshire.

The business was founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek in Portland, Oregon. Its owners said they are excited to open in a new city home to ice cream lovers.

“We’ve always known Boston would be a major market for us, and we can’t wait to partner with local artisans in the city," said CEO and co-founder Kim Malek in a news release.

This is just one of many popular new businesses coming to Boston this year.

The city is getting two new trendy coffee shops. Joe & The Juice and Ralph's Coffee are planning to open sometime in 2026.

Boston Provisions, a store offering high-quality meat and seafood, opened just last week inside a new building at 1 Boston Wharf. It is a combination of two longtime Massachusetts-based food purveyors: Wulf’s Fish and Savenor’s Butchery.

Plus, the upscale eatery Avra Estiatorio, known for its large fish display and fresh seafood, is set to open at 400 Newbury St. in mid-April. The restaurant will be Avra’s eighth location and its first in Massachusetts.
