Celtics Player Jabari Bird Hospitalized, Delaying Arraignment

The Celtics player is accused of assaulting someone he was in a romantic relationship with.

BRIGHTON, MA —Celtics player Jabari Bird, 24, was scheduled to be arraigned in Brighton Municipal Court Monday following his Friday night arrest by Boston Police on charges stemming from an assault on a person with whom he had a romantic relationship, according to officials.

However, because the shooting guard was admitted to an undisclosed hospital this weekend it is not clear when he will appear in the Brighton courthouse to face charges that he assaulted, choked, and kidnapped a person on Friday, according to the District Attorney's office.

On Saturday, Bird was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. Once his release is approved by doctors, police are slated to pick him up at the hospital, book him on the charges and bring him to Brighton Municipal Court.

It’s not clear just when he will be medically cleared for that release.

After finishing his senior year at California, Bird was selected by the Boston Celtics as the 56th pick of the 2017 NBA draft. And in September last year, he was signed to a contract.
