Boston Housing Redevelopment Project Receives Large Grant (patch.com) — Boston's Rogerson Communities has secured a $600,000 grant to advance a major redevelopment of Rogerson House in Jamaica Plain, adding 66 memory care units and 41 affordable apartments for older adults. Backed by Boston city approvals and prior funding, the six-story project will also feature outdoor gardens, fitness space, and expanded day programs to meet growing elder-care needs.
   

2. Boston police prepare safety measures ahead of 53rd annual Caribbean Carnival (boston25news.com) — Boston's 53rd annual Caribbean Carnival takes over city streets Saturday, with two parades and a major police presence aimed at keeping the celebration safe. Boston police expect one of the city's largest cultural events, with routes running along Warren Street, Blue Hill Avenue, Circuit Drive, and into Franklin Park.
   

3. Boston's first human case of West Nile virus reported, state's third case, officials say (bostonglobe.com) — Boston health officials have confirmed the city's first human case of West Nile virus this year, the third reported case statewide, and are monitoring conditions with state partners. Residents are urged to protect themselves by avoiding peak mosquito hours, wearing long sleeves and pants, and draining standing water around homes where mosquitoes can breed.
   

4. English High School in Jamaica Plain still under construction as classes begin for 2nd straight year (cbsnews.com) — Students at English High School in Jamaica Plain are starting another year with construction still underway, including temporary window coverings and ongoing exterior work. Boston Teachers Union leaders say the situation highlights aging facilities across Boston Public Schools and are pushing the city and state to invest more, while officials promise completion later this fall.
   

5. Hollywood Vampires Documentary to Open 42nd Boston Film Festival Next Month (rock929rocks.com) — Boston film fans can catch the Hollywood Vampires documentary opening the 42nd Boston Film Festival on September 18 at the Boch Center Wang Theatre, with Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, and Tommy Henriksen appearing for a Q&A. The festival runs September 17–21, and tickets and VIP packages for screenings and the opening night after-party start at $25 online.
