BOSTON — The Boston Calling music festival has done a good job making sure local acts have a home at the festival over the years — whether they be big names like Passion Pit, or smaller acts like Bearstronaut. Boston Calling 2019 was no exception; the festival's 10th anniversary saw seven acts with ties to Massachusetts.

After attending all three days of the festival, it was cool to see what the Bay State brought to the table for music. See which of the Massachusetts artists at Boston Calling made Patch's top three local acts.

1. Sidney Gish (Boston)

Sidney Gish was one of Patch's hidden gems for Day 2 — and for good reason. This talented singer-songwriter went up with just her guitar and no backing band and still had people curious enough to check out her set, despite playing less than an hour after doors opened. Just by being herself, Gish drew people in with witty lyrics that people just seemed to relate to.

But she wasn't just drawing people in. Judging by how many people sang along to "Sin Triangle," it was pretty obvious a lot of the crowd already knew who she was. Watch out for Gish because this definitely won't be the last time you hear her name on the festival circuit.

2. Pile (Boston)

Pile, another Day 2 hidden gem, got the crowd moving, with their aggressive punk-rock like sound. Besides Turnstile, they were probably the only other "heavy" band on this year's lineup, but Pile brought something more unique to the table.

Frontman Rick Maguire could shift his vocal style from melodic singing to raw shouts seamlessly, as could his band, who also played a few more laid back numbers as well. When many heavier bands struggle to stand out, Pile did the opposite. No two songs sounded the same.

3. Clairo (Carlisle)

In 2o17, Clairo became somewhat of a viral sensation overnight when she dropped "Pretty Girl" and ended up with 32 million views on Youtube. Well, she's come a long way from her bedroom recordings and has turned into quite the live act in the indie pop world.

Her new 80s pop influenced songs had polish to them, without ever losing that sincerity and soft vocal tone fans originally fell in love with. The crowd responded well to the three songs she played off her upcoming album, and several already knew the words to her new single "Bags," which dropped only two days before her Boston Calling performance. Clairo is another artist to continue to watch out for, especially with her new album coming out later this summer.
