Ready, Set, Dream! Author Peter H. Reynolds to Lead 29th Annual North Star Children’s Ramble

DEDHAM, MA – Bestselling author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds will once again serve as Grand Marshal of the North Star Children’s Ramble, a beloved, literacy-themed race for kids ages 3–12. The race is inspired by Reynolds’ award-winning book The North Star, a fable about discovering one’s true path, which has become a favorite graduation book for graduates of all ages.

Now in its 29th year, the event takes place Sunday, April 26 (rain or shine) at the historic Endicott Estate, near the greenhouse at Walnut and Mount Vernon Streets. The North Star Children’s Ramble is held alongside the James Joyce Ramble 10K, which attracts thousands of runners and spectators each year. Proceeds from the adult race benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Free registration opens at 8:00 a.m., with races beginning at 9:30 a.m. All participants who cross the finish line will receive a participation ribbon and free children’s book. Advance registration is available at kidsramble2026.eventbrite.com.

While waiting to race, families can enjoy warm-up activities, face painting, music, games, and coloring. The North Star Children’s Ramble offers age-based races ranging from 50 to 500 yards, along with the popular Dedham Family Fun Run, a one-lap celebration around the estate.

Designed as a child-friendly companion to the James Joyce Ramble, the Children’s Ramble celebrates both active bodies and imaginative minds. Each participant will receive a new book courtesy of leading publishers including Candlewick Press, Abrams Books, Scholastic, and Simon & Schuster. Additional sponsors include The Blue Bunny Book & Toy Shop and the Reynolds Center for Teaching, Learning & Creativity.

Reynolds, creator of beloved titles including The Dot, Ish, Be You, When You Dream Big, and Going Places, is internationally recognized for championing creativity and self-expression. He lives in Dedham, where he co-founded The Blue Bunny Book & Toy Shop, a community hub for young creators and readers.
