Selectman Approve Wireless Antennas from Verizon

Three little antennas will be installed at the top of utility poles to help improve coverage in some areas of town.

DEDHAM, MA — If you see little white cans at the top of some poles in town, chances are it’s providing a better cellular network signal.

Last week, the selectmen gave the OK for Cellco Partnership, better known as Verizon Wireless, to install the small antennas on three utility poles on Allied Drive, Quabish Road and Elm Street.

Representatives from Verizon Wireless told the board that the canister antennas measure at 12x38 inches. They are used to improve wireless service in dense areas like malls and downtown city streets. The range for the devices are an eighth to a quarter of a mile depending on the environment.
