$100K Bail For Man Accused Of Shooting Falmouth Officers
Malik Koval, 22, has been held without bail for nearly a year.

FALMOUTH, MA — A man accused of shooting two Falmouth police officers last July had his bail set at $100,000 Monday, according to the Cape Cod Times. Malik Koval, 22, has been held as a danger since his arrest.
He has been charged with two counts each of armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a firearm and assault and battery on a police officer and one count of possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card and disturbing the peace.
Authorities say Koval shot officers Don DeMiranda and Ryan Moore on July 27, 2018 in the Seacoast Shores neighborhood. Koval became agitated when the officers, who were responding to a call of a man breaking bottles in the street, confronted him, according to police.

Police say Koval went into his house, got a gun and fired at the officers. DeMiranda was shot in the chest and shoulder, and Moore was shot in the neck. Earlier this month, the town sent a letter to the governor petitioning for a fast-tracked disability retirement for the officers.
Koval was shot multiple times but survived. His new attorney, Brian Kelley, argued in Barnstable District Court Monday that DeMiranda and Moore entered the home without a warrant, the Cape Cod Times reported. He said the exchange of gunfire stemmed from an "overreaction" by police and his client's possible mental health issues.
