Buzzards Bay Park To Reopen This Summer After Toddler Accident

The playground closed last July after a 2-year-old girl was injured and had to have her toe amputated.

BUZZARDS BAY, MA — Months after a toddler was seriously injured at Buzzards Bay Park, the playground area is set to reopen. Workers are currently making it accessible for children with disabilities, and it will reopen on Memorial Day, according to the Cape Cod Times.

The park saw renovations and the addition of a splash pad before it opened last June. It closed a month later after a 2-year-old girl was hurt on a slide and had to have her toe amputated.

The town has repeatedly turned down public records requests from the Cape Cod Times to obtain a safety report on the playground conducted after the accident. However, Town Counsel Robert Troy said in November the park did not comply with federal and state laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Architectural Barriers Act, the Times reported.
