Cape Cod Man Gets 18 Months For 5th OUI

The Hyannis resident was arrested in late 2017 after a reported disturbance at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel in Falmouth.

FALMOUTH, MA – A Hyannis man will serve 18 months in jail for his fifth drunken driving offense. Russell Schley, 51, was convicted of operating under the influence in December and sentenced last week to two-and-a-half years, with 18 months to serve and the balance suspended for three years, according to the Cape Cod Times.

Schley was arrested Sept. 1, 2017 following a reported disturbance at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel. Schley was accused of breaking into a room and threatening to "snap" his friend's neck, the Times reported.

He was found at the 7-Eleven on Main Street after a woman reported that a possibly drunken driver had parked his truck there. Responding officers believed Schley was drunk and charged him with operating under the influence.

He was also charged with negligent operation of a vehicle, driving on a suspended license, disorderly conduct, shoplifting, violation of a restraining order and two counts of vandalizing property. He was found not guilty of driving on a suspended license, and the other charges were dropped due to lack of prosecution, according to the Times.
