Drunken Driver Crashes On Falmouth Beach: Police

Officers found the car at the water's edge with the tide flooding the front of the car.

FALMOUTH, MA – The driver of a car that crashed into the ocean in Falmouth Monday morning has been charged with drunken driving, according to police. Officers went to the beach at the end of Maravista Avenue around 1 a.m. and found the car at the water's edge. The tide had started to flood the front of the car, police said.

Officers found the driver trying to hide in a nearby yard, according to police.

Investigators believe the car went through the stop sign at the end of Maravista Avenue, crossed Menauhant Road and drove more than 100 feet on the beach before stopping at the ocean.

The driver, who police did not name, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, operating to endanger, operating with a suspended license, speeding and marked lanes violation. He also faces warrant charges of driving an uninsured motor vehicle and an unregistered motor vehicle.
