Sparks Fly From Falmouth DUI Suspect's Car: Police

Robert Sylva, of Falmouth, was charged with his second drunk driving offense after police said he drove on his car rim as sparks flew out.

FALMOUTH, MA — A drunk Falmouth man was arrested Tuesday after police said he drove down Route 28 on his car rim, sending sparks flying. Robert Sylva, 63, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor (second offense) and negligent driving. Falmouth police said an officer stopped Sylva's sparking vehicle at about 1:50 a.m.

"An officer observed a vehicle on Route 28 traveling on the rim of the wheel creating sparks at about 30 mph in a 55 mph zone," police said in a statement. Sylva was arrested on the spot.
