Falmouth Officers Injured In Shooting Honored
Officers Don DeMiranda and Ryan Moore received the Officer of the Year and Medal of Honor awards.

FALMOUTH, MA – Two officers shot in East Falmouth last summer were honored with two awards Tuesday. Officers Don DeMiranda and Ryan Moore each received the Medal of Honor and Officer of the Year awards, according to Capenews.net.
The officers have not yet returned to duty. They attended the ceremony in plain clothes but were not told they would be awarded, the Cape Cod Times reported.
DeMiranda and Moore were shot July 27 while responding to a report of a person breaking bottles in the East Falmouth neighborhood of Seacoast Shores. Police said the suspect, 21-year-old Malik Koval, became agitated when confronted by the officers and fired at them from inside his home, hitting DeMiranda in the vest and shoulder and grazing Moore in the neck.

Koval was shot several times during the exchange. He has been indicted on two counts of armed assault to murder and other charges.
Moore told the Times the shooting is still "really emotional" for him, but it was good to know he "didn't let anyone down." DeMiranda said it was "humbling" being recognized by his fellow officers.
