Falmouth PD Asks Residents, Businesses To Share Surveillance Info
Police ask residents and businesses with private surveillance systems to register them with the department to help solve crimes.
FALMOUTH, MA – Falmouth police are asking residents and businesses with private surveillance cameras to register them with the department. Police say cameras may capture persons and events without the owner's knowledge that could be used to help the department solve crimes.
By registering a camera system with the department, officers and detectives will be able to identify which cameras may have caught criminal activity, according to police. A camera owner would only be contacted by police if there is a report in the area of a camera system, and police would request to review the footage to assist in an investigation.
Any type of camera system, such as Ring, SimpliSafe, Nest, hard wired or wireless systems would be accepted.

The department says it respects residents' privacy and would not release any personal information provided, such as name, address, phone number or email address.
At a selectmen meeting on Monday, Chief Edward Dunne told the public the department is not "tapping into your cameras," the Falmouth Enterprise reported.
