Falmouth Police Rescue Man At Little Pond

A missing man with learning disabilities was saved by a Falmouth police officer Monday.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth police on Monday rescued a missing man at Little Pond. The 45-year-old man, who has learning disabilities, was found stuck in waist-deep water while suffering from hypothermia, police said. He was hospitalized and expected to recover. His name was not released.

Falmouth police Sergeant Michael Rogers was dispatched to the pond near Grand Avenue Monday afternoon after a bystander called 911 and reported a man standing in the pond.

"The male was unresponsive and appeared unsteady, as if he was going to fall into the water," Falmouth police said in a statement. "Sgt. Rogers immediately entered the water and determined that the male was stuck in the mud and showing signs of hypothermia. At this point, the male collapsed and Sgt. Rogers held him above the water. A nearby onlooker volunteered to help and began to dig the mud away from the male’s feet until he was freed."

The man was transported to Falmouth Hospital for treatment.
