Falmouth Police Shooting Suspect Indicted By Grand Jury

FALMOUTH, MA – A Barnstable County grand jury this week indicted the man accused of shooting two Falmouth police officers in July. Malik Koval, 21, of East Falmouth, was indicted on two counts of armed assault to murder and other charges, according to the Falmouth Enterprise.

Koval pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in July.

Authorities say Koval shot Falmouth police officers Don DeMiranda and Ryan Moore in the East Falmouth neighborhood of Seacoast Shores July 27. The officers were responding to Ashley Drive shortly before 5:30 p.m. for a reported disturbance and found Koval breaking bottles in the street, according to the DA.

Koval allegedly became agitated when confronted and ran back into the home. As two people came outside and tried to interfere with the officers' efforts to follow Koval, he allegedly fired at the officers from inside the house, hitting DeMiranda in the vest and shoulder and grazing Moore in the neck. Police shot back and hit Koval several times.

The grand jury also indicted Koval's mother, 38-year-old Kimberly Koval, and brother, 18-year-old Marcus Maseda, who are accused of trying to interfere with officers.
