Heroin Bust At Falmouth Campground: High Bail For Suspects

Falmouth police said Todd Lopes, of Falmouth, and Andrew Weldon, of New Bedford, had heroin and marijuana at Sippewissett Campground.

FALMOUTH, MA — Two men arrested during a heroin raid at Sippewissett Campground Tuesday were held without bail. Todd Lopes, 29, of Falmouth, and Andrew Weldon, 28, of New Bedford, have extensive criminal histories and were ordered held without bail for 90 days during a hearing in Barnstable District Court Wednesday. After 90 days, Lopes' bail was set at $75,000 and Weldon's was set at $100,000, according to police.

During the raid Tuesday, the men hopped in a car and tried to flee but hit an unmarked police cruiser instead, authorities said. No one was injured. (Sign up for free daily newsletters and breaking news alerts from Falmouth Patch.)

Police said they seized 58 grams of heroin, more than 2 pounds of marijuana, marijuana edibles and $10,500 in cash. Lopes was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (car), driving to endanger, failing to stop for police and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Weldon was charged with heroin trafficking (subsequent offense), marijuana possession with intent to distribute (subsequent offense) and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Falmouth police were assisted by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and Cape Cod Drug Task Force during the raid.
