Sandwich School Bus Crash: 3 Students Hurt

Sandwich police said a 17-year-old driver slammed into a school bus Tuesday; charges against the teen are pending.

SANDWICH, MA – A 17-year-old driver crashed into a school bus in Sandwich Tuesday afternoon, resulting in injuries to three students. Police said charges are pending against the driver, who was also injured in the crash. The incident happened on Quaker Meeting House Road near Oak Crest Cove at about 3:45 p.m.

Police said the 17-year-old male was driving a Toyota Tundra with a 14-year-old female passenger when he failed to stop for another vehicle in a turn lane and instead swerved into the opposite lane of traffic, striking a school bus carrying students home from the Forestdale School. The teen driver and female passenger suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. The students suffered minor injuries.

The students ranged from kindergarteners to third-graders. There were reportedly 23 students aboard the bus at the time of the crash.

Police said charges against the driver are pending.
