2 Malden Police Officers Retire After Lengthy Decorated Careers
The department recognized both officers this week for their service.
MALDEN, MA — Two police officers have retired after more than a combined 60 years of service to the city, the police department announced on Wednesday.
Officers Scott Mann and Joseph Walker were recognized by their peers as they both called it a career earlier this week.
Walker first joined Malden police in 1994. According to Chief Glenn Cronin, Walker earned numerous commendations and the respect of colleagues and citizens through actions taken during his career. In September of 2020, a young resident wrote Walker a card expressing her gratitude for his actions in helping her during a dangerous situation.

“Since the day of my accident, I have been praying for you and your colleagues every night,” the girl wrote in her letter to Walker. “You helped me realize that there are angels like you everywhere, but sometimes you need to go through something traumatic to see them.”
The specific nature of the police call was not disclosed to protect the resident's privacy. Walker was also known to educate young residents about work zone safety and the importance of police-community cooperation.

“Thank you, Officer Walker, for your service, your leadership, and the legacy you leave behind,” Cronin said in a statement. “We wish you nothing but the very best in a well-earned retirement.”
Mann began his service to city not long after Walker and held numerous positions throughout his tenure. Mann’s resume includes working as an arson detective for the Criminal Investigations Division, Task Force Officer collaborating with federal law enforcement, and a dispatcher for the 911 Operations Center.
“Officer Mann’s experience, work ethic, and willingness to support partner agencies made a lasting impact on the department and the broader law enforcement community,” Cronin said.
