Malden Man Sentenced On Interstate Drug Trafficking Charge
The act reportedly resulted in the death of an Iowa resident.
MALDEN, MA — A resident has been sentenced to federal prison on drug distribution charges, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
Michael Thomas D’Orlando, 47, reportedly sent packages with a powder containing fentanyl to a person living in the city of Norwalk in November of 2023. According to court documents, the Norwalk Police Department soon found the person dead. It was determined after an investigation that the person ingested the powder D’Orlando sent to Iowa and the fentanyl caused their death.
D’Orlando was sentenced to eight years in prison on the charge of conspiring to distribute fentanyl on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The prison term will be followed by three years of supervised release. He reportedly sent the drugs though the United States Postal Service.
“The U.S. Postal Inspection Service remains committed in its collaboration with our law enforcement partners to ensure that those who distribute lethal doses of fentanyl are held accountable,” Inspector in Charge of the Denver Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service Bryan Musgrove said. “This sentencing emphasizes the impact of fentanyl distribution in our communities and our commitment in relentlessly pursuing those responsible for distributing the deadly drug.”
