Coast Guard crews rescued a sea turtle off Cape Cod Sunday.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — Coast Guard crews said they rescued a sea turtle tangled in a lobster pot off Cape Cod Sunday. The adult sea turtle got trapped near Cuttyhunk Island and a fisherman who saw the distressed creature called it in to the Coast Guard.

"A 29-foot response boat crew from Station Menemsha launched with a member from the Massachusetts Department of Natural Resources," the Coast Guard said in a statement. "They arrived on scene and freed the animal, which swam away safely." (Sign up for free daily newsletters and breaking news alerts from Massachusetts Patch sites.)
