Footage Shows Daring Great White Shark Rescue on Cape Cod

The great white shark beached itself in Chatham while going after a bird.

Rescuers on Monday saved a great white shark that beached itself on South Beach in Chatham.

A witness said the shark jumped out of the water to catch a bird but landed on a sand bar and eventually washed up on shore. Rescuers tied a rope to the shark’s tail and pulled it back out to sea.

Smartphone-equipped swimmers captured the scene on video:

It has been a busy summer for great white shark sightings on Cape Cod. On Saturday, a rescue team freed a humpback whale entangled in fishing gear as a great white shark circled them off the coast of Provincetown. A great white was also been spotted near Orleans recently.
