Letter of Thanks to Medfield Community from Tim Knight, School Committee Vice-Chair
Hello Medfield Community,
As I step down from the Medfield School Committee, I would like to share my experience, gratitude, and endorsement of candidates on the Monday, March 31st Annual Town Election ballot.
I wanted to share a few words as I finish my term on School Committee. Thank you to the community for voting for me and supporting key school initiatives we have implemented while I served.

During my terms, I saw first-hand how Dr. Marsden and his leadership team evaluate and
prioritize the interests and well-being of our students with every decision and interaction. It was important to see this reflected by the educators across all of the schools, as that guiding principle helped us navigate some difficult decisions, while bringing the community together as we deliver on the mission outlined in the Strategic Plan.

The most enjoyable times on the School Committee were partnering with the teachers,
staff, and volunteers who work tirelessly with the students & community. One highlight was experiencing how the teachers consistently center around our students’ Social/Emotional needs first,
as that allows our students to thrive academically and make a meaningful difference outside the school. Another highlight was working with our volunteers as they shared their time,
experiences, and ideas to make the schools a better place. I learned over and over again that the
schools cannot run without our volunteers – Thanks.
Finally, I want to thank my family for supporting me while serving on the School Committee,
as this gave me the opportunity to grow while doing something that I genuinely love.
In closing, I am thrilled that we have a great pool of School Committee candidates on the ballot and encourage all residents to vote on March 31. As I step down from the School Committee, I would
encourage you to vote for Michelle Kirkby and Sophia Viglas for the following reasons:
Michelle Kirkby has shown amazing wisdom, leadership, and partnership with the
community as School Committee member and current Chair. Michelle is always advocating for our students and families, while considering the perspective of the Community and Administration
in order to make the best decisions. The Medfield Schools will continue to get better under Michelle’s leadership. Please vote for Michelle.
I have known Sophia Viglas for nearly 15 years, and have seen her strengths as a neighbor, parent,
and leader in the schools. As Co-President of the Wheelock PTO, she has brought boundless
energy to support the teachers and students, with new initiatives and enrichment activities to Wheelock. In addition, Sophia advocates for students every day as Director of Counseling Services at English High School in Boston. She is eager to bring her leadership experience, drive, and open-mindedness to collaborate with the community and would be an excellent member of the School Committee. Please vote for Sophia.
All the Best,
Tim Knight, Vice Chair, Medfield School Committee
