The event will raise much needed funds for pancreatic cancer research at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and will commemorate the life of the Trust’s founder and Medford native, Kathleen Granara-Skerry, an active and impassioned philanthropist.

Prior to the start of the race, Kathleen’s oncologist Dr. Andrew Zhu, MD, PhD, and her husband David Skerry will deliver remarks and present a check to Mass General Cancer Center. Registration will begin at 8:00 am, the run will start at 10:00 am and the walk shortly thereafter. This USA Track & Field certified Walk/Run will begin and end at the American Legion Hall on Winthrop Street and will be timed by Last Mile Racing, one of the top timing and scoring companies in New England. Results will be posted on Cool Running and top finishers will be awarded prizes immediately following the race.

Community members, family, friends and spectators are invited to attend a post-race reception at the American Legion Hall. The celebration will include a special appearance by Boston Bruins mascot Blades, raffles, refreshments, music, awards, prizes, children’s activities and live entertainment.

The 5K Walk/Run was founded by the late Kathleen Granara-Skerry— who battled pancreatic cancer and received treatment at the Mass General Cancer Center— to promote awareness of pancreatic cancer and treatment options and generate funds for research. To date, the Walk/Run has generated more than $980,000 for the Cancer Center. This year’s race is expected to help reach Granara-Skerry’s fundraising goal of one million dollars.
