24 New Trolleys Purchased Through Green Line Extension
The first car has arrived for testing and more are expected in 2018 and 2019.

MEDFORD, MA – The first trolley purchased as part of the Green Line Extension project has landed in Massachusetts for testing, the Boston Globe reported. Twenty-four new cars in total were bought through the $2.3 billion project to be implemented on existing Green Line branches.
The second car is expected to arrive later this spring, with more slated for later this year and 2019, according to the Globe.
The new trolleys will allow the T to maintain its ridership while it takes older models off the line for maintenance. The "Type 9" cars can fit approximately 10 percent more passengers, have bright yellow handrails for better visibility and have sliding doors as opposed to doors that open outward, the Globe reported.
