4 Arrested During Encore Boston Harbor's First Day

Given the throngs of people who turned out on opening day, officials are considering the number of arrests a success.

EVERETT, MA — Four people were arrested during Encore Boston Harbor's first 24 hours of business, according to Everett police. Two men – 27-year-old Jankelli Volquez and 56-year-old Hector Hernandez –were charged with cheating and conspiracy after being accused of cheating at roulette, state police spokesperson David Procopio told MassLive.

A third person was charged with trespassing after being told to leave and trying to re-enter. A fourth was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct overnight.

A fifth person was issued a summons for heroin possession, the Boston Globe reported.

Encore spokesman Michael Weaver said in an email there were approximately 5,000 guests waiting in line at noon on Sunday.

"We were able to accommodate all guests inside Encore by 2:30 pm and had steady visitation throughout the afternoon and evening," Weaver said.

Everett police said "things have gone well for us" considering the number of people who attended Encore's grand opening. The casino and dining outlets had a steady flow of visitors through Monday, according to Weaver.

"We are very pleased with our visitation thus far and the overwhelmingly positive response we've received from guests about the Encore experience," he said.
