"Buyer beware",.. Tom O'Connor talks the talk, but fails to walk the walk,.. He made a ton of claims & promises, then failed to deliver. I hired O'Connor painting to gut & repair a room, as well as build an extended exit, extend my deck, and roof the house. The job started on one budget, and ended three times over budget, and months after it was supposed to be completed. Everytime you turn around he was adding to the expense. He quoted a complete job, then; oh, you want stairs to get down from the landing to the exit, oh that's extra,. Oh, you wanna a door on the extension, oh that's extra,.. Oh, you want interior walls to the room, oh, that's extra, oh, you want it painted, oh,.. That's extra. Oh, you want us to put back the siding we removed, oh, thats extra,.. The doors knobs & locks were installed upside down. The extension is taking in water and the exit door is sagging, making it difficult to close & lock. The garbage & shed doors are warped & sagging due to using cheap materials, and all the hard ware is coming lose. Not to mention he didn't use security fasteners, and in a couple spots he failed to install fasteners at all,.. When it came to the deck, he didn't know it was going to require a railing (building code) and then charged me extra for it. a builder with this many years of experience doesn't know building codes, and that of the very city he lives in,? The agreement we had involved stripping & reroofing the lower front roof, yet I come home to find his crew attempting to roof over the old leaking roof, and when confronted he claimed it was his laborer's misunderstand, of which I later learned he is infamous for attempting these stunts, then blames the laborers, whom are somewhat under his thumb because they are working under him, and he is sponsoring them in achieving citizenship, and it was communicated to me buy his workers, that he uses this power over them as leverage. These are hard working immigrants who would otherwise be conducting fair trade, but are at the mercy of this tyrant. He then went on to resurface the lower roof with fresh lumber (under roofing) with out even consulting with me, then wacks me with a bill, & claims there was no other way, "We needed to do it" again without consulting the home owner,.. Isn't it the home owners right to know what's going on, and what to expect, and what if I didn't have the money,. According to Tom O'Connor, not so much,.. His wallet comes first, not his commitment or obligation to his customer. When he completed the upper roof, he failed to do the roof over the addition (30yrs old) and claims he didn't mean that part, when he said "main roof",.. Following the completion of the "main roof" had left nails & debris in my driveway & yard, as well as all over the roof, so everyday I was finding fresh nails, and debris that was falling of the roof from rain & wind. We endured 7 flat tires in total as a result. 3 on my personal vehicle, 2 on my work truck, & 2 on my daughters car,.. I experienced a clog in one of the down spots, and contacted him, after over two weeks of his failure to reply, I cleaned it out myself, and found a cluster of rusty nails & debris from his failure to clean up after the job, when I complained , he claims we dont do roofing, must have been someone else, yet I have a contract, and proof of payment. That same year the renovated room started taking in water, and the interior walls starting cracking as a result. When I contacted O'Connor, he failed to return my phone calls for over a month, then when I became more assertive & irate, he shows up at my doorstep while I'm getting the kids on the school bus, looking to fight. Apparently he didn't like being called a coward,.. I must have hit the nail on the head,.. We had a spat about how he doesn't take shxt from no one and he's not fixing anything because he doesn't like my attitude, he then follows up with a bs letter explaining himself, but Since then there have been absolutely no attempts to repair anything, and the work he has done continues to come undone. At this point I wouldn't even allow him to repair it because he is untrustworthy, and he has poor craftsmanship, and didn't stand behind his work or his word, so I have been following up with the attorney generals office,.. Buyer be ware,.. Stay away from O'Connor's Painting of 21 Cedar Street, Medford, MA.
