Medford Community Housing Inc. Annual Meeting a Success

Medford Community Housing, Inc. held its annual meeting at the headquarters of Century Bank at 400 Mystic Ave. on November 9. The featured speaker was Middlesex County Assistant District Attorney Joseph P. Kennedy III. 

Kennedy addressed an audience of over 100 people. He spoke to the group about the importance of volunteer organizations in local communities and in the nation. Recalling his family's experiences in public service, Kennedy said that both his grandfather, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and his father, Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy 2nd, had been instrumental in crafting legislation to allocate federal funds for local housing initiatives. He also spoke of his mother's volunteer work to create affordable housing.

The program began with a welcome from Century Bank CEO Barry Sloane. MCH past president John Woods served as master of ceremonies. 

District Court Judge Elizabeth Cremens, a former MCH officer and founding member, was recognized for her many years of service to  the organization. In her remarks she mentioned the significant events since the group's founding in 1988.

Georgiana Chevry, a volunteer board member and officer of the organization, also addressed the audience about the challenges of affordable housing in Medford. She said, “her own search for a house motivated her to help serve others." 

In attendance at the event were a number of elected officials, including State Representative Paul Donato, Medford City Councilor Mark Arena, and Medford School Committee member-elect Robert Skerry. Representing the City of Medford was housing specialist Laura Glynn of the Office of Community Development. 

Medford Community Housing's board and officers, including Michele English, Henry Rappa, Jesse  Edsell-Vetter, Erich Karol, Georgiana Chevry, and David Brosnan were elected to new terms. The event was organized by MCH staff consultant Susan Collins.
