Forward Sacadas - displacement or the illusion of displacement (level: Pre-advanced)

Sacada is an illusion of displacement — and once you understand it, whole new spaces on the floor open up to you.

Beyond the striking visual effect, sacadas let your axis travel through a giro and use space that's normally unavailable, because your partner is standing in it. That's the magic: you move into a space as it's being vacated. It changes what's possible in your dancing.

This series also settles a question that catches almost everyone off guard: entrada, sacada, or gancho — what's the difference? It feels like comparing apples to oranges, but they're closely related. A gancho travels toward the standing leg so the free leg can hook around it. Entrada and sacada both aim toward the free leg to displace it — they differ only in how deeply you enter your partner's space. An entrada, really, is a shallow sacada: the leader's leg quietly takes over the position the follower's free leg just left, without disturbing its path. And it works both ways — leader to follower, or follower to leader.

We'll take the mystery out of all of it, and put forward sacadas into your dancing for real.
