In tango, the giro is more than a turn. It’s a language of rotation, power and elegant control.
Sundays 2:30 pm in Malden | 8-week Intermediate course starts November 1 | Each class is 90 min
This course deepens your understanding of giros, entering from both the forward cross and the back cross, in the parallel and cross systems. Along the way, we’ll add some of tango’s most playful elements: paradas, sandwiches, mordidas and barridas.
Main Focus:
- Entering the giro from the forward cross and the back cross
- The sensation of circularity, in both the lead and the follow
- “Same front”: upper-body torsion that keeps the couple together
- How to accommodate and accompany your partner through the turn
- Opposition: first in a flat plane on forward and back steps, then curving it through open, side and cross steps
- Feeling the difference between open and cross movement
Additional Explorations:
- Giro in the cross system (4:4, every step accompanied) from back and forward crosses
- Changing the direction of the giro
- Parada: the art of the stop
- Sandwich
- Mordida and the syncopated step
- Basics of barrida and arrastre
- Bicycle and hamaca: control of axis
If you’ve ever felt dizzy in the giro, or stuck with the same pattern, this is your invitation to master one of tango’s most essential tools and make it your own.
Want to go deeper? Stay for the 4 pm Pre-Intermediate course, built entirely around the molinete, the engine of every giro.
