Charlestown Man Found Guilty of 2011 Jerome Street Murder

Gerald Sullivan, 39, is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday, June 26.

A Charlestown man has been found guilty of murdering a Medford man and severely injuring another during an armed home invasion on Jerome Street in February 2011.

Gerald Sullivan, 39, was found guilty by a Middlesex Superior Court jury in Woburn on charges of first degree felony murder committed during a home invasion, home invasion (two counts), armed assault to murder, armed assault to rob, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, possession of a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without a license, according to a Tuesday release from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Sullivan is scheduled to be sentenced by Middlesex Superior Court Judge S. Jane Haggerty at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, according to the release.

Sullivan and another suspect, both wearing masks, entered 55B Jerome Street at about 10 p.m. on Feb. 18, 2011, and demanded cash and jewelry, according to authorities. During an ensuing struggle, one of the men fatally shot 37-year-old Johnny Hatch and shot Hatch’s father, John Vieira, in the head, authorities said.

Sullivan was indicted for murder in June 2011 after DNA put him at the scene and was arrested in New York that August.
