DA Deems Medford Officers In Payroll Scandal Untrustworthy
The DA has blacklisted the 27 officers disciplined following an investigation into abuses of the overtime pay system, Boston 25 reported.
MEDFORD, MA — About a quarter of the Medford Police Department has been deemed untrustworthy by the Middlesex District Attorney's office, according to Boston 25. The 27 officers disciplined following an investigation into abuses of the Medford Police Department's overtime pay system have been added to the "Brady List," which consists of officers with credibility issues whose testimony could be considered unreliable, the network reported.
Twenty officers were suspended without pay and seven received a written letter of reprimand after a months-long probe into violations of the department's detail policies this past summer. City officials ordered an independent investigation, conducted by former Massachusetts State Police captain Paul L'Italien, after learning policies may not have been followed during a construction project in 2018.
Officers have served their suspensions and repaid the cumulative $17,000 they wrongly received in full, Police Chief Jack Buckley told the Boston Globe in November.
