Girls Lax Swamped by Andover

The Medford High girls lacrosse team suffered just its second defeat all season with a 13-3 loss to Andover.

The Medford High girls lacrosse team suffered just its second defeat all season with a 13-3 loss to Merrimack Valley League powerhouse Andover.

"We played the best team we've faced all year," said Medford head coach Matt Galusi. "The game was never in question, Andover dominated from the opening draw to the final whistle."

Olivia Timmins, Sophie Karon and Mady Forcier accounted for Medford's three goals as a stingy Andover defense and the occasional downpour made scoring opportuinites tough to come by for the Mustangs.

"The Lady Mustangs showed tremendous character in the loss," said Galusi. "Not one of the girls gave up or stopped playing at 100 percent. It is games like this that show your true character and I am proud of my team today."

Andover sits atop the Merrimack Valley League at 14-1 while Medford's second loss of the season has the Mustangs at 12-2 overall.

"My hat's off to coach John McVeigh and the Andover team," said Galusi. "They were impressive and oh so talented. As a team that is where we strive to be someday. It was good for our girls to see the game played at such a high level. We will get there someday."

Up next for Medford is a game under the lights tonight at 7 p.m. against visiting Watertown.
