Man Assaults, Carjacks Uber Driver in Medford: Police

An Uber driver asked his allegedly unruly passengers to exit his vehicle. One did, then assaulted him and took the vehicle, police say.

An Uber driver reported he was assaulted by a passenger in Medford who then took his vehicle, police said.

Medford police responded to an Uber driver's call for assistance in the area of 343 Salem Street around 2:38 a.m. Saturday. The driver said he picked up four passengers in Boston, and the passengers became unruly.

The driver pulled over on Salem Street, got out of the vehicle, and asked the passengers to get out, police said. Two of the passengers complied, but one man allegedly became combative and assaulted the driver. The man then allegedly entered the driver's seat and left with a female passenger still inside.

Police interviewed the two who left the vehicle and identified the male suspect as Nicholas Fabrizio, 33, of Lynn. After speaking with detectives over the phone, Fabrizio turned himself into Medford Police Saturday afternoon.

The stolen vehicle was recovered in Malden, police said. The victim was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries.

Fabrizio will be arraigned in Somerville District Court Monday.
