Medford-Based Author, TVHost and Harvard Faculty Member Matt Weber Honored with a Christopher Award for "Operating on Faith"

Celebrated at The Christophers' 68th annual gala May 16 in NYC, it's one of 12 books representing 16 authors and illustrators

Medford, Mass-based author, TV host and Harvard faculty member Matt Weber has won a Christopher Award for “Operating on Faith: A Painfully True Love Story.” It is one of 12 books for adults and young people by 16 authors and illustrators to be celebrated, along with the writers, producers and directors of ten feature films and TV/Cable programs, on May 16, 2017 at the 68th annual Christopher Awards in New York.

The book is a touching and funny account of the life-threatening medical problem Weber faced shortly after getting married that developed in him a deeper love for his wife Nell and new perspective on God. Tony Rossi, the Christophers' director of Communications, wrote about the book for a blog post on patheos.com: “If you’re thinking the book is an earnest, depressing, ‘Woe is me’ tome, you’d be wrong. In addition to being poignant, spiritually wise, and an endearing love letter to his wife Nell, it’s also very funny. Because Matt Weber can’t not be funny.”

Weber is also the author of "Fearing the Stigmata" (Loyola Press, 2012) and host of The Catholic TV Network series The Lens. The 30 minute program on news and culture reaches over 12 million homes across North America. In addition, the Emmy nominated and Telly Award-winning writer and producer has a faculty appointment as Preceptor on Education and is the director of digital communications strategy at the Harvard Graduate School of Education [HGSE] where he leads digital, social, video, multimedia, and content production and dissemination. Weber also created and hosts the education podcast The Harvard EdCast, and has interviewed over 200 thought leaders including Oprah Winfrey, Noam Chomsky, Jeb Bush, Arne Duncan, and Colin Powell.

The Christopher Awards were created in 1949 to celebrate authors, illustrators, writers, producers and directors whose work “affirms the highest values of the human spirit.” The Christophers, a nonprofit organization founded in 1945 by Maryknoll Father James Keller, is rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition of service to God and humanity. The ancient Chinese proverb—“It’s better to light one candle than to curse the darkness”— guides its publishing, radio, and awards programs.
